School Choice Scholarship Programs

School choice vouchers and how it could help you!

Mater Dei High School is participating in the school choice scholarship (voucher) program.  For information about this program or how to enroll at Mater Dei in the voucher program, please contact Lou Ann Gilbert, Enrollment Manager, at 426-2258, ext. 322, or lagilbert@evvmaterdei.org.

The state of Indiana initiated the School Choice Program during the 2011-12 academic year. Mater Dei High School and all of our affiliated Catholic elementary schools are approved School Choice participants.

The Legislature created two scholarships within the program. The School Choice Scholarship (Voucher) is an award from the state in which the per student state funding is granted to the approved private school of your choice. The second type of scholarships are awards given by a state approved Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO). SGO scholarships may vary in amount. The SGO in our area is the Tuition Assistance Fund of Southwestern Indiana. The Scholarship Granting Organizations are solely dependent on contributions from private individuals in order to fund scholarship awards.

Here is how the legislation affects you:

If you currently have children in a public school:

Based on your income level, you may be eligible for a School Choice Scholarship (Voucher) or Choice Scholarship from a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO).

Here is a brief overview of the qualifications

This scholarship amount is approximately $5,000. Click on the link below for actual income guidelines and scholarship amounts.
  • Families whose household incomes fall below 150% of the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Guidelines are eligible to receive a voucher for 50% of the state tuition support. For the 2012-13 year the income is about $63,000 for a family of four. The scholarship amount was approximately $2,500.
  • The scholarship amount will be the lesser of tuition and fees or the voucher. The cap for grades 1-8 is $4,500.
